I Think, Therefore I Am
René Descartes may have been close when he coined, “I think, therefore I am”, but after reading The Strangest Secret I am convinced that it should be modified to “I think, therefore I become”. The author, Earl Nightingale, not only cites many historical works that point to this truth, he also does an amazing job of painting his own analogy to understand the importance of such a simple, yet powerful concept.
In his own words, “The key to success and the key to failure: WE BECOME what we think about.” That’s right, success and failure are just opposite sides of the same coin… or rather, opposite thought patterns of the same mind.
This Book Is Gold!
Well, actually the audio version is “Gold”. Interestingly, this was spoken and recorded for the author’s sales team at a time when he was scheduled to be out of town for a weekly meeting. The recording was so powerful that it was reproduced and became the first record in its genre to sell a million records.
Granted, Earl Nightingale was already a great success at the time of the recording, still it goes to show how powerful a simple act of service can be. To my knowledge, there was no intent to produce a record, the demand for reproduction came from those who heard it! It just goes to show that we may never know the full impact of our actions and the possibility that arises when we act from a place of service.
